Redeemers Group and their team of crawl space repair specialists recently encountered a significant challenge while trying to repair a structurally damaged, sagging crawl space. The spaces under pier and beam foundations are called “crawl spaces,” but in this particular case the foundation was built with only 10 inches of clearance between the dirt floor and the bottom of the floor joists. This is not enough clearance for anyone to crawl under -- not even the experienced Redeemers crew!
Their solution to the problem was to access the crawl space from the interior of the home, by pulling back the carpet, and cutting a hole through the floor. Through that opening, they were able to excavate the footing to pour the rock fill and put the pyramid foot down. The SmartJack™ crawl space support jack was installed under the floor joist. A galvanized steel I-beam was used under the floor joists for increased structural support.
After the structural repair was completed, the hole in the subfloor was plugged and the carpet was laid back in place. The crawl space is now stable and secure, and it is hard to tell that this home just underwent major structural repair.
