Werner Trucking Concrete Repair
Challenge
Werner trucking has several areas of settled concrete around their guard shack. Some of these slabs are cracked, and some have sunken into the soil by as much as 3 inches. This is obviously not ideal for neither the company, nor the drivers. With large trucks continuously coming and going, the problem could become very worse, very quickly. The constant traffic also poses another problem: the solution must be fast, and the work cannot impede the drivers, thereby disrupting business.
Werner called local concrete repair experts Redeemers Group to help them design the ideal solution for their concrete problems. Upon inspection, it was determined that water had infiltrated beneath the slabs. This is a major problem because water can swiftly erode the soil, carrying it from under the slab and causing voids. With these voids, there is no longer stabilization, in turn, weakening the the integrity of the concrete.
Solution
This project calls for our 3 part CPS System. Stage 1 is stabilization. This was accomplished with a PolyLevel® Concrete Injection System. With this system, a lightweight and ultra-strong polyurethane foam is injected in strategic locations around the concrete. This foam does 2 things. First, it fills all voids beneath the concrete. After that, it expands. This controlled expansion pushes against the underlying soil, causing the concrete to lift to the desired position. Here are the attribute of the PolyLevel System:
- Strong but light: PolyLevel® weighs only about 4lbs. per cubic ft., compared to 120lbs. per cubic ft. for standard fill material. PolyLevel®'s light weight makes it useful where denser fill material might impose an undesirable load on weak soils. Despite its light weight, PolyLevel® can support substantial loads; it typically provides greater lifting power than mudjacking.
- Waterproof: Once cured, PolyLevel® will not wash away. PolyLevel®'s waterproofing properties can be beneficial in certain applications.
- Stable and inert: PolyLevel® does not react with soil or moisture; it will not leach harmful chemicals into the soil.
- Quick curing. Downtime is minimized with PolyLevel® concrete repair. Full loading of the foundation, roadway, or other structural element can usually happen about 15 minutes after the material is injected.
- Adjustable: Adjusting the density and expansive force of the 2-part foam affords a wide range of geotechnical uses. Lifting force can be adjusted by fine-tuning the chemical reaction that causes the foam to expand. An experienced applicator can factor not only the weight of the structural element but also soil characteristics and temperature and weather conditions. Special formulations are possible for applications where water must be displaced.
- Noninvasive: PolyLevel® injection equipment isn't bulky, enabling applicators to access confined areas. When properly injected, PolyLevel® is not as messy or disruptive as other slab and foundation-lifting techniques.
The second stage of work is water mitigation. This is accomplished with NexusPro® Joint and Crack Sealant. This sealant stops water from penetrating beneath the concrete to cause more erosion and damage. With all joints and cracks sealed, water is carried away from the concrete instead of finding its way beneath it. The third part of the system is SealantPro® Concrete Sealant. Here are the advantages of SealantPro®:
- Permanently protects concrete with just one application
- Protects and adds value to your home by extending the life of your driveway, pool deck and other concrete structures by 3-5 times
- Penetrates concrete and permanently bonds with it, protecting it from water damage and making stains easier to remove
- Can be applied on new concrete
- Costs less over time because it does not need to be reapplied
- Reduces ice bonding, making ice removal easier
- UV resistant and won't discolor over time
