From Sinking to Solid: How We Revived Michael’s Driveway, Patio, and Stairs in Little Rock

If you’ve ever noticed your driveway, patio, or stairs sinking over time, you’re not alone. Concrete settlement is a common issue that can lead to uneven surfaces, cracks, and even safety hazards around your home. That’s exactly what happened to Michael, a homeowner who had been considering repairs for over a year. When he finally decided to move forward, we provided a customized solution to restore his property efficiently and effectively.

The Problem: A Sinking Driveway, Patio, and Stairs

Michael first reached out last year, interested in using polyurethane foam (PolyLevel®) to stabilize his driveway. At the time, he was holding off on repairing his back stairs and patio. However, fast forward a year, and the damage had worsened. The driveway had dropped even further, the stairs were increasingly unstable, and the back patio was becoming a major concern.

One of the biggest challenges was Michael’s back stairs, which were sitting on a concrete pad that was also sinking. Without knowing if there was a footer beneath the stairs, a more strategic approach was necessary to ensure lasting stability.

The Solution: PolyLevel® and Helical Piers for a Permanent Fix

After re-evaluating the damage, we proposed a two-step stabilization approach:

  1. PolyLevel® Injection – This advanced polyurethane foam lifts and stabilizes concrete surfaces with minimal disruption. We planned to use it on:
    • The left section of Michael’s driveway (two slabs that had dropped)
    • The upper section of the driveway, including crack repair
    • The AC pad on the left side of the house
    • The back patio and large brick stairs
  2. Helical Piers (if needed) – Since the back stairs were a critical concern, we recommended trying PolyLevel® first to lift and level them. If additional support was required, we could then install helical piers, a deep foundation solution that anchors structures into stable soil layers.

Michael was on board with this approach, but his wife was considering going straight to the helical piers. We reassured him that we could start with PolyLevel® and reassess later, giving them flexibility while addressing the problem immediately.

The Next Steps: A Solid Future for Michael’s Home

With the project set to begin soon, Michael’s home will soon have a stable, level, and safe driveway, patio, and stairs—all without the cost or hassle of replacing the concrete entirely.
