Top Five Signs of Foundation Issues
Foundation. A word that most homeowners have heard several times. Foundation repairs can be costly and troublesome to any homeowner. Check out our list of signs and call us if you have any questions.
1. Noticeable cracks.
Cracks that are extremely noticeable may appear on the first or second level of your home. Pay attention to the walls over doorways or where the ceiling and wall meet. A red flag would be bulging walls and diagonal cracks off doors and windows. Look for any brick cracks along the mortar line on the exterior of your home.
2. Stair Step Cracks
When foundation settlement has occurred, stair-step cracks are commonly seen in brick and concrete block. Horizontal cracking widens with increasing settlement, indicating downward movement. Cracks in the concrete slab also may indicate settlement.
3. Bulging and Leaning
Be sure to check foundation walls by looking down the length at each corner. If there is any type of leaning, it is a sign that the foundation has shifted.
4. Gaps in the garage door.
Most cracks in the garage door are a true definition of foundation settlement.
5. Misaligned doors and windows.
Because doors and windows are precisely aligned inside of their frames, they can be affected by shifts and settling foundations. When the foundation moves (even just a few centimeters) it can cause problems with the door alignment.
