Remember how your floors were cold last winter?

Foundation insulation is important, but it needs to be done correctly. Adding insulation does a lot for your home; it will certainly save in energy output, but it will create warmer and therefore more comfortable downstairs flooring. Those who have something other than carpet in their downstairs know what I am talking about. Cozy slippers are nice, but it is also nice to walk through the downstairs barefoot without having ice cold feet.

Keep in mind that crawl spaces and basements have a host of humidity and moisture issues, so we are not saying to insulate your crawl space without encapsulating it properly. However, if we leap forward and assume your crawl space is or is about to be encapsulated or your basement waterproofed, then it is appropriate to also consider how you are insulating the space. There are multiple proprietary insulation products that we use for walls and floors in crawl spaces including SilverGlo®,  TerraBlock™, and wall panels which you can read more about by clicking on their names.

For an unfinished basement, Basement to Beautiful panels provide basement wall insulation and waterproof steel framing in a single step.

It is not uncommon for us to inspect a crawlspace that has fiberglass insulation on the underside of the floors. This is not at all bad, but it does only insulate the floor above, and in a crawl space, remember that moisture and humidity are a consistent issue. Many times, fiberglass insulation in a crawl space that hasn’t been encapsulated will fall from the weight of the moisture it collects. It also serves a food for mold. So in it of itself it is not a bad thing, just not effective on its own. For extra comfort & energy savings, we recommend installing SilverGlo® rigid foam insulation against crawl space walls and TerraBlock™ flexible foam insulation on the crawl space floor, beneath the moisture barrier.

All of the insulation products we install are designed to withstand water and moisture and provide you with greater comfort from the ground up.
